Tonight, I watched Nightbooks (2021) for the first time. The beginning didn’t grab me, but I enjoyed the inventive aspects of the plot as they evolved throughout the story. I don’t have much to say so immediately after watching, so I’ll simply leave two notes.
- Filmmakers really love using “Hansel and Gretel” as inspiration for horror / scary / grim movies. This is at least the third that I’ve seen in the last decade.
- In this movie, the real horror is intergenerational trauma, with writer’s block coming in at a close second.
